What does the glyph for the sign of Cancer mean? Look more closely it is not the number 69!

Long before the Zodiac signs were related to animals they were represented by numbers and explained through sutras—poetic phrase. The sign we call Cancer is sign number four.

This is an area which represents contentment and deeper rooting. The heart and emotional capacity as well as a sense of home and security are established here. It is where an individual begins to thrive through understanding and is given the opportunity to gain autonomy. The Lunar Goddess rules all of this and her phases lead us through monthly patterns associated with this ebb and flow of evolutionary progress.

The symbol of the sign number IV Cancer, is easily mistaken for numeral sixty nine, but it is not!
Look more closely and you can see the two circles which represent the new and full moon and two crescents which represent the 1st quarter and the last quarter phases.

The crab was chosen as the animal to represent the sign due to habitual behavior like considering home and collecting of great importance as well as nocturnal preference. Perhaps also due to the claws resembling the path of the Lunar orb!

A Solstice is a powerful energetic gateway whose energy covers an arc of three days. This is due to a reduction in the magnetic field of our Earth which allows a greater influx of cosmic radiation to penetrate the atmosphere. This profoundly affects our psyche, the body, and our DNA.

The Moon peaks to Full tomorrow morning East Coast time just twelve hours before the Cancer Ingression of the Summer Solstice here in the Northern hemisphere and the Winter Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere.

Having a Full Moon crown so closely to this seasonal event is a rare occurrence. This greatly magnifies the transformative potential. The last time there was a full moon on the same day as the Cancer Solstice was in 1967 and the next time is to be 2062 utilizing UT or Universal Time to measure. The last time we had a Full Moon of grace a solstice was December 21, 2010.

Today’s New Moon is the second of a pair in the sign of Aquarius. Just like its twin in January, today’s lunation has our orbiting satellite at the extreme close connection we experienced last month. This gives us opportunity to reflect on the feelings we experienced as a result of the occurrences that transpired in the last 29.53 days.

Life is a series of patterns and cycles. When we have two New Moons in a calendar month it is celebrated as a Supermoon. This second in the pairing of Aquarian new moons is an opportunity to for us to observe our emotional patterns as we feel and ride the waves of natural and cosmic energies. I don’t know about you, but this Astrologer has been handling a whole lot of crazy!

It is important when we are exploded upon with a flourish of others’ needs, that we take them on with grace and patience. February 19, the Sun glides into Pisces. What was public now has a chance to go in cognito. Hopefully you have not embarrassed yourself these last few weeks and have had enough time to save face. Pisces inspires dreams and can often inspire moving feelings. Be sure to keep in contact with your closest support for times when the waves of emotion catch you by surprise.

The personal planets have all be hovering in the evening sky this last month. Venus has been a wonderfully beautiful evening star and is making ready to unite with her sweetheart Mars on February 20 in the fiery realm of Aries. These two lovers have been floating in the dreamy sign of Pisces and this bold move marks a reuniting for all lovers in the name of passion. Mercury continues his movement forward returning the place he began his most recent retrograde. Be patient as you sort out the frayed ends of your last nerves. I promise you can bring everything back into order. Be patient.

The Full Moon in Virgo March 5 is a great opportunity to shine in your abilities. Take extra care to be gentle in your personal demands on yourself and others. Virgo is discerning and loves to over scrutinize. This only leads to stress.

The New Moon in Aquarius is and invitation to philosophize about a better more unified world. This is a call to action for all of us as a collective. Now we must open our eyes and hearts in order to think and act globally. Aquarius is not always the most sensible of energies to deal with. Therefor it is of the utmost importance that we remain grounded and in tune with our own needs and those of others.

Each lunar cycle the Moon travels in an elliptical pathway at times closer and others further from the earth. When Luna is very close in what has come to be called a “Super Moon” our feelings become intensified. Today’s New Moon is in very close proximity to the big blue spaceship we call home.

The sign of Aquarius can easily make our feelings hard to pinpoint and identify. This nebulous quality is disconcerting for Lunar ruled and influenced beings. This is defined by the Moon or the sign of Cancer on an angle in the natal chart. If you have never learned about your personal astrology, now is the time to dive in with a private consultation. January 20 the Sun enters Aquarius turning our collective consciousness to a new and unexpected direction. This is a great time to reconnect with friends. Why not try stretching beyond your normal comfort zone and trying something completely different?

Mercury takes his first retrograde of the year January 21 which lasts through February 11. This is sure to create more delays than usual. Aquarius rules electronics and communications so please be sure to triple check your work and back things up! I suggest keeping on track with current projects and wait until next month to begin anything new.

Venus floats into the dreamy pond of Pisces January 27. She urges us to go on creative dates and to dive into our craft. We could purchase concert tickets or attend a cultural event. Any and all of these suggestions help to satisfy her longing. In a few days on February 1, Venus connects in an intimate conjunction with nebulous Neptune. This fogs up our vision and makes it challenging to see ahead. In this type of situation it is best to move very slowly and without strong definition. Just be patient.

The Full Moon in Leo February 3 insists we get out and play. Parties with food and opportunities for performing are the best way to quench the lion’s command. Feb 11^th Mercury turns Direct in the first degree of Aquarius having drifted backward since the New Moon. In the coming weeks we have the opportunity to continue forward in a new light.

Aries March 19/20 to April 20/21

Health can be delicate so be gentle with your demands. When the people around you slow down and appear in reverse, take this as a signal to shut down. Take a few days off. It is better to have a wellness break than be forced into days off due to stress related situations. When your energy pack fills once again, treat a special someone to a night out. It has been a long time since you were the instigator of fun. Is it really worth it being so serious? Tap into your intellect for guidance and use your gift of gab to get you going in an upward motion once again.

Taurus April 20/21 to May 21/22

The state of your health is improving and with it your level of happiness is rising. Be sure to share cheer and good vibrations with everyone who has been standing by you and picking up the slack. Now is a good time to keep your socializing to very small groups rather than large gatherings. This helps to avoid a particularly unruly situation with a challenging personality. If you have been scheming a career move, hold off until the latter part of February. Right now is too bumpy to get your ideas across and solidify an agreement.

Gemini May 21/22 to June 21/22

That electrical piece of equipment that has been giving you early warnings signs of failure is sure to quit. This is echoed in your central nervous system. Heed all early warning signs and by all means take yourself to a massage or Reiki session. Then, take that tired electronic device to the repair shop. This is no time to practice denial. Catching the early stages is key in create health and happiness. Get real and use your wit and wisdom to rise above any perceived challenges. You have strokes of genius this month so be sore to capture them when they flash through your mind.

Cancer June 22/23 to July 22/23

You feel as if you are due for rest and renewal but there is no time right now. The busy spell has you feeling exposed at times. Realize this is helping to get you into financially fit shape. Stay as frugal as possible and you can easily get out of the red and into the black. When you least expect it a new patron or donor shows up. You are not in synch with what is required but you have the ability to read the situation and act. For goodness sake be sure you are resting well and up for the needed surge of energy to follow this through.

Leo July 22/23 to August 23/24

You are in no mood for conforming or letting things just slide. Though you are most likely in the right it is still a good idea to back off a bit as others cannot keep up with you. You must learn to trust your feelings and not take the criticism of others so profoundly. Sparks and fireworks may have sputtered and cooled down in your primary relationships. Rather than feelings blocked or stagnated by recent relationship shifts, see this as an opportunity to set strnger and more long lasting foundational stones. Instead of blaming things on others ask yourself what you can do to keep things going.

Let go of your naughty little habits and make the changes that you have known you need to give into. This way you end the annoyances that have become menacing. You are able to easily see the mistakes of others so rather than gloating over the corrections you easily made, just quietly work behind the scene. Libra September 23/24 to October 23/24

The desire to reconnect with an old friend is hovering overhead so go ahead and reach out. Venus, your ruling planet is gracing your solar fifth house of lovers and creative projects. Scorpio October 23/24 to November 22/23

Take the leap of faith and plunge headlong into all new projects. Your level of trust has steadily increased. This has in turn equally strengthened your ability to surrender.
